Designer Ranjana Khan

Insanity, elegance and glitz are a few words to describe the great pieces I found by Ranjana Khan.  Being the seeker of great and original designs, I needed to look up more information about this designer, and wow, was I impressed.

To those that are still in the dark about Ranjana Khan, she was born in India and has lived for the past years between Paris and New York. Ranjana worked with top fashion messiahs as Alexander McQueen and Jean Paul Gaultier and ultimately, introduced her own collection in Summer 2010, which has captivated many with her bold – yet elegant, style.

Her technique varies from embroidery to using acid and flame on her pieces in order to give them that worn and antique look that makes any piece desired. Ranjana’s pieces have already outshined the Gossip Girls on screen and they continue to keep peeking their shinny heads on major fashion literature as Vogue and Nylon Magazine.

The Cinderella Complex

What is it about wearing shinny, blinged-out shoes? Is it a Cinderella Complex? Lately we are seeing this trend take over season after season.  This trend has been able to transcend through the gloom of dark hues of Fall and the outspoken colors of Summer; and the shinier the better.

Christian Louboutin's Shiny Alti Spikes - $105.00

The look does make any outfit, brighter, no pun intended. It has that magic touch of adding some sultry and elegance to a casual assembles at the same time, it relaxes a too preppy look.

In addition, the contrast it does to your leg is divine. It gives a false tan look when used with short skirts, and the right peak-a-boo look when used with long trousers.  The variety of prices and quality may satisfy even the pickiest of tastes, but we are in love with the one Target has now available.

Target Pumps - $29.99

Maybe is the idea of the fairytale coming true and having those crystal covered shoes at our feet, lets just hope a charming prince comes with them as well.

Fields of Fashion

This fall, fashion brings forward earthy colors and bold prints that offer style lovers new alternatives.  Native American influences for years have constantly maintained its presence in the fashion arena. Today is no exception.  From ankle fringe boots, to feather brass necklaces, it fun and unique fashion statement pieces are still fall fashion essentials.

Denim & Supply Ralph Lauren - Beacon Crewneck Montana Khaki Jersey $298.00

American Indian patterns tend to stand out, so we suggest to try not to mix them with other busy prints.  Play them up by pairing a faux fur jacket or sweater with solid colored items.  Additionally, treat this trend with a vintage feel; therefore go for materials with a natural feel as suede.  Finally, forego any flashy add-ons as high heels, and preferably select flat boots or better yet, suede moccasins.

BB Dakota - Boswick $130.00

As for jewelry, items made up of silver, brass or gold materials with a hand-crafted feel, swiftly complements this southwestern style.  So have fun with it, but know your limits, if you look at the mirror and Pocahontas is staring back at you, you know you have crossed the line.

House of Harlow 1960 - Cut Out Mohawk $149.00

Recently Miami locals have been enjoying a wonderful but sadly, short cold weather period.  Of course, many take this unique opportunity to bring out all of their winter gear that for months haven’t been able to see the light of day.  Recently, I have been obsessed with a beautiful hand woven alpaca poncho that I obtain on my last trip to Ecuador. Its fine craftsmanship and combination of lively colors, makes a great combination to Miami’s showstopper fashion.

Their fresh feel and easy cover up capabilities, makes ponchos a fun and unique alternative to jackets and sweaters. If traveling to Ecuador is out of the way, you can still enjoy more demure variations by Michael Kors as the one shown below.

Sky High and Comfy

I am the first one to complain about how uncomfortable high heels are, but subsequently, I will be the first to say how fundamental they are to any great outfit.

Luckily I found some practical and inexpensive items that will make any shoe, even the 5 inch ones, comfortable and walk-able.

Insolia High Heels Inserts helps reduce archy feet and provides a nice cushion - $19.95

I was able to try the Foot Petals Heavenly Blizz during a friend’s wedding where dancing and standing was a requirement, and thankfully I was able to wake up the following day without any knee or arch pains.

Avoid sliding with this Foot Petals heavenly Heelz - $6.95

But the great ace up my sleeve was Dr. Scholls Fast Flats, a practical alternative to shoe wear which can be stashed easily inside the smallest clutch. So girls, take advantage of these comfortable options available and have fun enjoying the nightlife in sky high heels.

The Ace Under My Sleeve. Slip them on right the moment you feel you can walk any more - $16.98

Tips on handling the ruckus your closet has become during the past 11 months.  As I always hold off my “Spring Cleaning” for Fall, I wanted to share with all of you cute and productive gadgets that have helped me maintain my small, nobody-will-be-jealous-of-your-closet, space.

Easy way to keep everything looking neat and organized - The Container Store $19.99

When you are able to see everything you will tend to actually be more creative and come up with new outfits that you wouldn’t have ever thought of.

Space for everything, with easy access and transparent compartments that helps you to choose the best accessory for your outfit - The Container Store $24.99

Cool Tip, get an antique looking, but inexpensive mirror and use it as a perfume tray

Fool The Eye

Short and stub… not the best words I would like to hear someone describe me, but sadly at 5”4”, I came to the realization, as many others out there, that I will never be able to adjust my height.  Many crave those never ending legs and how well they carry out many outfits.  Not to add salt to the wound but I cannot stand being in high heels for more than two hours. So what is a gal to do?

Here are some quick tricks out of the box for all of you girls that are unable to reach for the skies but are smart enough to dress like a super model.

1.     Dress in one solid color.  A good example is dress from head to toe in black; this creates an optical illusion of height.

Alexander Wang

2.     Match your tights to your shoes. Good and easy way to elongate your legs. Take note from Alexander Wang Collection 2012.

3.     Nude Heels.  This works! Try out shoes that match your skin tone and your legs will look, as they never end. We recommend this option of Nude Shoes – Guess by Marciano.

4.     Make your tailor your best friend.  Oversized and slouchy pants just make you look messy. By having pieces that fit you perfectly, it will accentuate the best parts and even play with your proportions.

5.     Try high waist-pants.  This fake trick lets your torso and lower body look longer.
